Jerry Harke is a professional photographer and writer and resides in Annandale, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. He travels frequently conducting research and stockpiling ideas for future works of fiction as well as capturing images for his photography books. His first published book of photography was called The Edwardian Lawn Dress: Gentle and Timeless. The second photography book, In Sappho's Secret Garden: A Thesaurus of Love, explored the beauty of sapphic love and was based upon the ancient Greek lyrist Sappho, who Plato named the tenth muse. Harke’s third and most recently published book presents 408 pages of classic black and white nude figure art and is titled Nu Art en Noir et Blanc. It also contains a guest-photographer section highlighting the work of Harke’s friend and mentor, French photographer, Jean Vallette. Two more photographic books are forthcoming. The first, Real Redheads au Naturel … at Home!, is set for release in late 2010, and following that, Beauty Revealed is scheduled for release in early 2011.
Harke’s written works include three novels. The first, Lock Knot, is a spy thriller set during World War II. The second, On Hell's Doorstep, is an epic drama involving murder, romance, numerous twists of fate and a graphic and realistic presentation of the Great Depression during the 1930s, along with notorious outlaws of the era. The third book is called Episodes. Set in 1978, it involves a series of murders on the High Plains during a period of significant changes and intense social unrest in mid-America. A fourth novel is expected for publication in 2011. Jerry Harke’s novels include fiction laced with factual and historical events bringing a presence to the forefront that engulfs the reader. Jerry Harke has worked with models from around the world and he travels to other countries regularly to work with new talent. His search for models is always focused directly on those whose appearance and personalities fit the requirements of his book projects. Harke’s wife frequently accompanies him at photo shoots contributing her time and efforts as his 'production photographer.' She captures images that show him at work with models. These images are often used in the back of his photography books in a special section called 'Behind the Scenes.'
Harke’s work has appeared numerous times in gallery exhibitions including Artomatic in Washington, D.C., the Julia Petrova Art Gallery in Haiming, Austria, artDC Gallery, Cheryl Davis Art Gallery and Design Studio Art Gallery, all three in Hyattsville, Maryland, Gallery Provocateur in Chicago, Illinois, Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria, Virginia, the Village Plaza Art Gallery in Fairfax, Virginia, the MOCA DC Art Gallery in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and the Creighton Davis Art Gallery in Naples, Florida. He has a permanent exhibit at Café Tatti in McLean, Virginia. Harke is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the Public Relations Society of America and the American Society of Association Executives.
